Ulm

Ulm Sedan Kaserne DP Camp  was located in the Stuttgart district of the US zone. It was based in requisitioned private houses and in barracks. The camp was heavily overcrowded with ten to fifteen people often sharing one room. In mid 1948 the camp had about 2300 inhabitants, the majority of whom came from Poland, Hungary and the USSR. Seventy percent of the population planned to immigrate to Palestine. The camp was practically administered by the DPs themselves and maintained its own police service. The large ORT school in Sedan Kaserne was established in September 1946 and worked for the benefit of four Jewish camps located in its proximity. The school offered a considerable variety of courses including: locksmiths training, electric technology, radio mechanics, leatherwork, photography, millinery, furriery and dressmaking, with dressmaking and photography being the most popular and heavily oversubscribed courses. In the end of 1947 the school had an enrolment of 306 students. Its director was Shulim Nirenberg.

The camp was closed in June 1950
